| We aim to illustrate in this section the type of
CNC turned components that our company is ideal at manufacturing
in terms of suitability for our machine shop.
The five CNC
turned components give an indication into the range of work our CNC turning facility can
accommodate in terms of:
- Outside diameter
- Overall length
- Typical batch sizes
- Typical materials machined
|
Sample 1.
CNC turned component with
turned threads both external and internal with two spanner
flats as shown.
- Material - Aluminium Alloy FC1.
- Batch Quantity - 250 off
The turning and milling machining is completed in two
separate operations in this instance. We do have the capability on our driven-tool CNC
lathes to complete this job in one operation but it is more economical to mill the spanner
flats as a separate operation. We used the following CNC lathe and mill to complete this
job: |
 |
- MIYANO BNC 34T CNC Lathe with IEMCA Magazine bar loading capability.
- MIYANO TSV25 CNC Mill with
CNC Dividing Head attachment for milling spanner flats.

2.
CNC turned component with
milled hexagon flats and drilled cross-hole.
- Material - Brass CZ1 21
- Batch Quantity - 1000 off
The turning, milling and drilling on this job is completed
in one operation removing the need for the components to be handled twice and therefore improving the price
to the customer. We used the following CNC lathe to manufacture this job: |
 |
- MIYANO BND 34S with Sub-Spindle,
Driven Tools and FMB Magazine bar loading capability.

Sample
3.
Turned shaft with threaded portion and tri-flats in three positions along length
of component.
- Material - Stainless Steel 416
- Batch Quantity - 500 off
The turning, threading and milling on this job is completed
in one operation ensuring the fastest cycle time is achieved and therefore giving the most
competitive price to the customer. We used the following CNC sliding-head lathe to
manufacture this job: |
 |
- STAR SR20, Sub-Spindle with Driven Tools
and FMB Magazine bar loading capability.

Sample 4.
CNC turned component with bull
nose slots, drilled and reamed pin holes and light assembly to include manufacture and
insertion of pins.
- Material - Stainless Steel 303S21
- Bach Quantity - 1500 off
The turning on this component is completed on a twin-turret
CNC lathe offering the ability to overlap the drilling and outside turning operation which
represents a considerable cost saving to the customer. The close tolerance milling,
drilling and reaming of this component is completed on one of our CNC milling machines
with quick change tooling. We used the following CNC lathe and mill to manufacture this
job: |
 |
- MIYANO BND 34T3 CNC Lathe, Twin Turret,
Driven Tools and IEMCA Magazine bar loading capability.

5.
CNC turned component with
milled slot and drilled and tapped holes all to be in correct relationship with each
other.
Finish - Electroless Nickel Plate.
- Material - Mild Steel EN1A
- Batch Quantity - 50 off
The turning on this component is completed on a CNC lathe
with the suitable speeds and feeds for a large component of this size. We can quickly drill the 60mm
diameter hole on this component which is 65mm deep, this represents a considerable cost
saving to our customer. The second operation milling, drilling and tapping are all
completed on our CNC mills to include the use of the CNC dividing head to achieve accurate
hole positioning. We used the following CNC lathe and mill to manufacture this job: |
 |
- HITACHI-SEKI 23R Mark 3. With SAMECA
MULTISAM 2000 Magazine bar loading capability.
- MIYANO TSV35 with CNC Dividing Head
attachment.
